Twitter: 3 Nigerian Career Women to Follow in 2017!

Though the hamlet of corporate Nigeria is not particularly flooded with auspicious women, a few Amazons are fast rising to the top of the success ladder.

We have selected three of these women who steer the course of history in an environment usually dominated by men and whose updates we think you should have in your Twitter news feed.

Of course, Twitter is a great place to catch fun, follow news and learn what’s going on in the world, or just catch up on the latest gist about your favorite entertainer; from celebrities to ‘fashionistas’, actresses and comedians, but if career tops the list of your long term goals, these are the women that really matter on Twitter.

#1 – Nkiru Olumide-Ojo

Nkiru Olumide-Ojo

A professional in public relations, marketing and brand communication, Nkiru is a heavyweight in her career.

She was the former head of brand communication at Bharti-Airtel Nigeria, after which she also lead the corporate communications team at Forte Oil Company.

The co-founder of Lighthouse Network, a women mentorship forum, is currently the head of Marketing and Communications at Stanbic IBTC Holdings.

#2 – Arunma Oteh


Oteh is the proverbial rejected stone which has now become the Chief-Cornerstone.

The former Director-General of Nigeria’s Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) is a blend of beauty, class and career. Prior to becoming the Director-General at SEC, she had been the Vice President at the African Development Bank for five years and also held different positions in capital markets.

At SEC, she was detested for staying true to her values, which led to the non-renewal of her tenure as the director, but she was not repressed.

Now, this vibrant woman has been found worthy of the high profile appointment as the Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank.

#3 – Ibukun Awosika


While her peers were yet to figure out the career path to tread, this woman had already set hers very early in life.

At the age of twenty-five, the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) graduate set up her own furniture company which has now metamorphosed into “The Chair Centre Group” comprising:

The Chair Center Limited,Sokoa Chair Centre Limited,Furniture Manufacturers Mart, and a number of others.

Awosika’s feats are not a run of the mill. From following her passion, her excellence is business is widely acknowledged and this has earned her numerous awards.

Presently the Chairman, Board of Directors, First Bank Nigeria Limited, she is a business leader with interests in manufacturing and banking.

Her dedication and passion for inspiring young minds, thus, she is a regular speaker at different youth forums . She founded the AGDC(After School Graduate Development Centre), where fresh graduates can brush there interpersonal skills.
